Remotianimitis, more commonly known as Stratford syndrome, is a rare disease spread by Monsters.

Stratford outbreak

Stratford, California was the first city to experience an outbreak of the disease. When a Monster escaped from the Ancient Prison in the Underworld, it possessed three humans and used them to spread the disease throughout the town.

Within two weeks of the first reported case of remotianimitis, three high school freshmen discovered a cure and used it to revive a deceased victim. This victim then helped to destroy a monster army formed from other victims.

Name origin

Scientists originally referred to the disease as Stratford syndrome, after the city where it was first discovered.

Later, however, it was renamed remotianimitis, after the Latin remotio animi, meaning "the removal of the soul".
